A key purpose of the Regional Lead is to provide technical assistance and support to afterschool programs with a focus on building effective and sustainable programs that meet the needs of children and young people.

The roles and responsibilities of Regional Leads are broad in scope. Knowledgeable about programs and sites within their geographic areas, Regional Leads develop annual work plans that meet California AfterSchool Partnership guidelines and goals. They identify and connect existing and new resources with afterschool programs, and develop and work closely with regional advisory committees that represent key stakeholder groups. They also organize conferences and workshops.

Regional Leads work to ensure that governmental, educational and community organizations are aware of the importance of and effectively support afterschool initiatives - including outreach to school superintendents, city and county government, community-based organizations, the business community, community foundations, and colleges and universities.
