Curriculum & Instruction Steering Committee
Mission Statement:
Through the recognized regional structure of the County Offices of Education (COE), the Curriculum and Instruction Steering Committee (CISC) initiates and promotes collaborative leadership with school districts, the California Department of Education (CDE), State Board of Education (SBE), Governor’s Office, and other partners to ensure high quality programs, practices, and services that support sustainable and improved success for all students.
Core Purpose:
Strengthen county office service and leadership capacity to improve and sustain the academic achievement for all students, to prepare them with the capacities and skills required for 21st century citizenship, and to close the existing achievement gap.
Goals:
The goals of the Curriculum and Instruction Steering Committee are to provide leadership and high quality services to school districts by:
- Identifying statewide and regional curriculum and instruction professional development needs, and plan and
coordinate collaborative activities to address these needs.
- Facilitating the effective dissemination of information on services and programs, and reduce the costly
duplication of effort by providing a communication network for curriculum, professional development, and other
related activities.
- Providing assistance to the California Department of Education related to the adoption and implementation
of instructional materials and the development and implementation of curriculum resources such as frameworks,
instructional guides, and other related publications (Ed Code Title V-14035).
- Developing and implementing the monitoring and oversight processes for the Williams Legislation and QEIA schools.
- Planning, organizing, and conducting an annual statewide Curriculum and Instruction Leadership Symposium.
- Organizing and coordinating services to enhance the delivery of rigorous and relevant instructional programs
for all students.
- Communicating and collaborating across CCSESA Steering Committees to ensure coherent and articulated services
for schools and districts.
- Identifying liaisons for interest groups, school districts, State Board of Education, Governor’s Office,
and the California Department of Education in order to address a wide-array of curriculum and instructional
issues.
